tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9054996996505993423.post5386825301568032449..comments2023-11-02T01:43:32.946-07:00Comments on Rural South Texas Life: A few thoughts on patriotismDianehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17765443131151220391noreply@blogger.comBlogger2125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9054996996505993423.post-68591257911062460992009-05-10T04:51:00.000-07:002009-05-10T04:51:00.000-07:00I have to admit that as a youth, politics were bes...I have to admit that as a youth, politics were best left to those older and WISER than myself, but then something called VIETNAM came along, and opened a lot of eyes.<br /><br />Personally, I was FOR the war, but only in a manner in which we would WIN.<br /><br />Much of the same politics that hampered Korea again brought Vietnam to a virtual standstill...and that after OUR military forces had decisely WON every single engagement we found ourselves in.<br /><br />Now who makes ALL the touchdowns and STILL "loses the game", anyway?<br /><br />I also took that same oath (when sworn into the U.S. Treasury department), and after leaving the post, I was never really UN-sworn, so what I took a pledge to, way back then, STILL applies to me.<br /><br />It still carries WEIGHT, and MEANS something to me.<br /><br />I'm not an economist, or a politician or a sociologist, but, like many of you, I pay attention and keep my eyes and ears open. <br /><br />Sure, our individial voices might be barely heard, but when we decide to come together with a common cause on a blog or at a rally, those elected HAVE to hear us.<br /><br />ANd if they choose not to act upon the wishes of those who voted them in...we can vote them OUT just as easily.<br /><br />It's still OUR nation....<br /><br />B.G.Bob G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/09222203353717749897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9054996996505993423.post-55566797216636438892009-05-07T18:24:00.000-07:002009-05-07T18:24:00.000-07:00Too true. In fact, in many places, the people the...Too true. In fact, in many places, the people there won't even discuss politics, or history. In those places, one feels as if they were in a mental vacuum.
